30 Martial Arts training mistakes by Loren W. Christensen and Lt. Col. Dave Grossman This is interesting. In case you missed it, this article is accurate. The authors are highly respected and I recommend Grossman’s books. I plan to get Christensen’s and read them, too.http://www.turtlepress.com/training/30-common-martial-arts-training-mistakes
The Kenpo Karate Compendium The book is offered for pre-order on Amazon in Kindle format, and the page says available in January. It’s been interesting to see the flood of orders Amazon took when I announced the present books would go off the market. Unfortunately, since I had to stop selling my stock due the agreement with the new publisher, there are now several hundred disappointed people out there.

American Kenpo Senior Council The AKSC is coming back! An agreement between several ranking instructors has been made to restart the organization. Briefly, it is a league of Kenpo organizations and its main objective is to educate and certify instructors and examiners with a formal program. There are many details to work out and more information will be coming. Those who are backing the project are Steve LaBounty, Bob White, John Sepulveda, Brian Duffy, Gary Swan, Dennis Conatser, Graham Lelliott, Gary Ellis, Steve White and myself. At this time that’s five associations and two additional lineages.
Kenpo TV Update By the time you read this, there should be the first postings of the first and second person perspective videos up. You’ll see techniques done from the attack and defense side to illustrate the importance of using certain principles and positions, and many of those are often broken. These should help you see why. More Ed Parker seminar videos to come later in the years, too.
Online lessons I get a lot of questions so I’ve gotten into the technology being used by many others and now offer private lessons via FaceTime and Skype. It’s been working well and the students are very happy with it. I’m offering blocks of 5 or 10 lessons, each session running about 30-45 minutes. Blocks are $250 and $400 respectively. You determine the subject you want to cover and send me an e-mail with that information so that I can send you a return mail with the lesson notes when we’re done. Set an appointment time and off we go. You can pay via PayPal. And the call is free. This is no substitute for hands-on training but it sure does help. Just to be clear, this is not a way to test and get promoted over the web, it’s supplemental training. Sure wish I’d had this when Mr. Parker was alive.

In the online store Coming soon – the belt rank chart. This is an updated version of Mr. Parker’s chart, re-done by Dennis Conatser. They’ll be available with a traditional Kenpo crest or our PKS logo.
California Seminars I’ll be in California in August at Bob White’s in Costa Mesa, near LA and then Graham Lelliott’s in Clovis, near Fresno on August 24/25. I’ll be covering Form Six at Mr. White’s. Subject at Clovis is TBA.
Keeping Your Smarts This is an old editorial from Brain in the News. They recently reprinted it and it’s worth a read, especially if you’re an older student or teach older people.
